Kompakte Harmonien, markante Loops und griffige Beats

Frankfurt/Main (gbip/16.02.2007) - Mit den wichtigsten Klischees über Yoko Ono räumen wir gleich zu Beginn auf: Ja, sie war dabei als die Supergruppe "The Beatles" ihrem Ende entgegensah. Ja, sie ist die "Witwe" und wacht seit 1981 darüber, dass dem verstorbenen John Lennon kein virtuelles Haar gekrümmt wird. Ja, mit Yoko Ono wurde vor 74 Jahren keine Operndiva geboren. Ja, ihre bisweilen minimalistischen Kunstaktionen ziehen überall dort, wo diese dargeboten wird, ein großes Publikum an. Ja, möglicherweise ist sie eine Hexe ... aber eine verdammt nette, soweit wir uns im Oktober 2005 in Passau davon überzeugen konnten.

Ja, sie ist eine brillante und visionäre Komponistin. Sie blickt auf einen Katalog von rund zwei dutzend Alben und etlichen Singleprojekten zurück. Mit "Yes I'm A Witch" führt sie das mit etwas anderen Mitteln weiter fort, was die Beatles mit dem Album "Love" begonnen haben. Yoko überlies ihren Musikkatalog jungen Künstlern oder Produzenten, die den bisweilen historischen Aufnahmen einen zweiten Frühling verschafften. Das Material erstreckt sich von Avantgarde ("Cambridge 1969/2007") über Punkrock ("Walking On Thin Ice") und harmonischem Pop ("Revelations") bis hin zu aktuellem Dance ("Everyman Everywoman") und Spacesound ("Death Of Samantha"). Und dennoch sind diese Adaptionen irgendwie Originale geblieben - zeitlebens verstand und versteht Frau Ono es, Konventionen zu durchbrechen. Nicht zu Unrecht kürte die Punkszene sie zu ihrem Vorbild genauso wie die Popavantgardisten Björk oder auch B-52.

"Und deshalb lieben wir nicht nur Yoko sondern auch diese neue Compilation", bekennt German BEAT!-Herausgeber Sven.

Soundtechnisch überzeugt "Yes I'm A Witch" mit kompakten Harmonien, markanten Loops und griffigen Beats. Die Texte entspringen - wie gewohnt - Frau Onos Füllhorn aus politischen Statements und ihren schlichten Lebensweisheiten. Einzig Yokos Gesang wird die Gemüter polarisieren: Man liebt sie oder ... man liebt sie nicht. Wir sehen darin einerseits ein Stückchen Avantgarde - Yoko Onos Songs sind nicht für eine Barbra Streisand geschrieben - und andererseits auch ein Ausdruck ihrer Zerbrechlichkeit ("The feeling of loneliness hangs over like a thirst" aus "Nobody Sees Me Like You Do").

John Lennon sagte einmal über seine Frau: "Jeder kennt ihren Namen, aber keiner weiß, wer sie wirklich ist und was sie macht." Zumindestens, wenn man dieses Album gehört hat, lernt man die Musikerin Yoko Ono besser kennen.

Yoko-Ono-Webseite wirbt für das neue Album

Frankfurt/Main (gbip/13.02.2007) - Die von der britischen Parlophone betriebene Webseite "www.yoko-ono.co.uk" informiert seit wenigen Tagen offiziell über Yoko Onos neuestes Album "Yes I'm A Witch". Neben den bekannten Informationen bietet die Seite auch Hörproben von allen Titeln. In Groß-Britannien soll das Album am 19. Februar erscheinen. Im deutschsprachigen Raum wird die Platte voraussichtlich bereits am 16. Februar auf den Markt kommen.

"www.yoko-ono.co.uk" berichtet auch über die Veröffentlichung von drei Maxisingles. Diese soll es laut einem Berichts des Onlinemagazins "www.lennono.com" nur im Vereinigten Königreich geben und nicht in Österreich und wohl auch nicht in Deutschland.

Das Album, so unser Fazit nach dem Hören erster Internetveröffentlichungen, ist auf der Höhe der Zeit. Die - bisweilen historischen - Kompositionen erleben dank der jungen Produzenten ihren zweiten Frühling. Oh, Yoko!

Frankfurt/Main (gbip/23.01.2007) - Dem neuen Album Yoko Onos geht bereits der Ruf des "Feinen für Harmnonie-verwöhnte Ohren von Beatlesfans" (so Beatlemania) voraus. Im Ernst, die neue Platte ist eine Retrospektive über das musikalische Werk der japanischen Künstlerin. Das Album enthält 17 Songs in Form von Duetten, Überarbeitungen oder Neuabmischungen.

Die Liste der Mitwirkenden liest sich wie das "Who is Who" der modernen Popmusik: The Flaming Lips, Cat Power, Antony von Antony and the Johnsons, The Apples in Stereo, The Sleepy Jackson, Peaches und vielen mehr.

In Deutschland und Österreich soll "Yes, I'm A Witch" am 16. Februar im Vertrieb der EMI Records erscheinen. Die beiden Hörbeispiele "Reveleations" und "Cambridge 1969/2007" klingen jedenfalls für "Onoianer" mehr als vielversprechend. Berlin (ots/07.02.2007) - Millionen Menschen sind mit dem Namen Yoko Ono vertraut. Für die einen beschwört er ein lang gepflegtes Vorurteil herauf, für die anderen birgt der unfaire Umgang mit falschen Informationen harte Fakten: "Kontrovers" - "Manipulatorin" - "Eine Hexe". Viel zu wenige allerdings verbinden mit Yoko Ono die zukunftsweisende Musik, die sie im Laufe ihrer Karriere erschaffen hat.

Trotz allem wurde ihre Musik von einer komplett neuen Generation von Musikern begeistert aufgenommen, verkündet und als Inspirationsquelle genutzt. Einer Generation, die selbst momentan um den Status Quo der Musik ringt und die Grenzen von Sounds und Ideen ausweitet. Daraus ergibt sich die neue Veröffentlichung "Yes, I'm A Witch", eine vollkommen andersartige Zusammenarbeit mit einigen der aufregendsten Musikern dieser Tage.

Jedem der Künstler wurde ein Katalog von Ono's Musik vorgelegt, um diesen durchzuhören und einen Ausschnitt auszuwählen. Instrumentelle Elemente, sowie der Gesang Yokos konnten diesem Ausschnitt entnommen werden, fast alle Künstler wählten allerdings ausschließlich den Gesang. Die Musiker produzierten nun mit ihrer jeweiligen Auswahl gänzlich neue musikalische Tracks, die imposant verdeutlichen, wie weit die Kompositionen Yoko Ono's ihrer Zeit voraus waren und auch weiterhin sind. Das Ergebnis ist ein aufregendes und sehr inspiriertes Set von Songs - allesamt geprägt und zusammengehalten von der Stimme und der Sensibilität einer Künstlerin, der bisher nur wenige die Möglichkeit gelassen haben, ihr ohne Befangenheit zu begegnen.

Die Sammlung enthält Beiträge der Flaming Lips, Cat Power, Antony von Antony & The Johnsons, The Apples in Stereo, The Sleepy Jackson und vielen mehr. Aus dem melancholischen Duett Ono & Cat Power erwächst die wohl üppigste Version von "Revelations", die man je gehört hat - im Gegensatz zur dröhnenden Psychoversion von Jason Pierces (Spiritualized) "Walking on Thin Ice" - diese Bands haben ihre eigene Version der eigentlichen ?Königin des Punks' auferstehen lassen. Während Peaches und LeTigre ihre dynamischen und sympathischen Interpretationen von "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss" und "Sister O Sister" darbieten, liefert Antony einen melodramatischen Einschnitt mit seiner Version von "Toy Boat". Beim Hören des gesamten Albums ist die Leidenschaft und die Seelenverwandtschaft zwischen den Künstlern und Ono ständig präsent.

Das britische MOJO Magazin hat bereits bestätigt, dass "Yes, I'm A Witch" nicht nur als eines der Top Alben des Jahres 2007 erwählt wird, sondern ebenso einen Rave Review bekommen wird!

In den USA errang Yoko Ono erst kürzlich zwei #1 Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Hits, so dass Astralwerks im März plant, eine weitere Compilation mit Ono's Dance Remixen zu veröffentlichen.

When I first received the multitrack master of the song I was floored to hear Yoko's vocal track on its own, without the backing instrumentation-- her voice is so pure on this song, and the alternate vocal which was not used in the original mix sounds even more delicate-- I can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure I ended up using the alternate vocal take, it worked better with my vision for the production.On the vocal track at the beginning of the song Yoko tells somebody in the studio, "I want the ginger tea"-- which is so endearing I left it in my final mix, to start the song."
